Have Religion Laws Been Misinterpreted?Religious Freedom Legislation Questioned by Historical Evidence
In a recent televised interview, historian and founder of Wall Builders, David Barton, discusses whether religious freedoms have been "stolen" from the American people.
In an interview with Andrew Wommak on Revelation TV, Barton cited evidence from documents written by the Founding Fathers of America that shows there was no intention to stop people from exercising religious freedom - in fact quite the contrary. Wall Builders' Collection of Original Historical DocumentsAccording to Barton, Wall Builders boasts one of the largest private collections of original documents dating from the times of the founding fathers of America. He was able to illustrate and validate all of the points he made by holding up documents written and signed by such eminent people as Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. Separation of Church & State Legislation MisguidedBarton stated his belief that the laws pertaining to the separation of Church and State have, in the last few years, been completely misinterpreted. He asserts that originally these laws were written by the founders of the American nation in order to protect religious freedom, He spoke about the way that these laws have, over time, become perverted so that the individual's rights have been eroded. The Founding Fathers - Refugees from Religious OppressionDavid Barton pointed out that the founding fathers were a faith based community who had escaped from religious persecution in Europe to enjoy freedom in their new homeland. He spoke about documentary evidence, such as the Fundamental Articles of the New Haven Colony dated 1639 in which the founders unanimously agreed that their constitution should be based on Scriptural principles such as the Ten Commandments. In order to back up his claims, he produced several original documents from the Wall Builders collection. Errors of Judgement have Removed Religious Freedom RightsThrough poor understanding of the intentions of those who wrote the constitution and changes in the way the legal system runs, he stated, errors of judgement have resulted in the law being "turned on its head" to the detriment of the individual and to society in general. He went on to say that denying people the right to public expression of their Christian faith,by forbidding such acts as praying at the beginning of an event, thanking God in a graduation ceremony, or writing about one's faith in a school essay, is unconstitutional. Wall Builders are often called on to produce evidence in supporting those who are being prosecuted for simply exercising their legal right to religious freedom. Their library of original texts has helped to prove that the nation and its legal system were both based on Christian Scriptural principles. References
