Certain Social Security & Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries aren't eligible for $250 stimulus checks. Who won't get another federal government economic stimulus?

For the most part, the $250 stimulus checks authorized by President Obama are intended for individuals not currently in the workforce. This includes certain individuals who receive Social Security benefits or Supplemental Security Income from the Social Security Administration.

Learn who isn’t getting a check from the Social Security Administration (SSA) as well as what number to call if an expected payment doesn’t arrive. Also, find out how to qualify for an economic stimulus check and how the $250 will be paid.

Social Security & Supplemental Security Income Recipients – Who Won’t Get a 2009 Economic Stimulus Payment

According to the Social Security Administration, the following individuals will not receive a $250 economic stimulus payment:

  • Anyone on Medicare, but not Social Security or SSI benefits.
  • Anyone whose residence on record is outside of the United States or one of its territories as described in the article $250 Stimulus Checks for Veterans & Retirees.
  • Children 18 and under (or 19 for those still in high school) who get social security benefits.
  • Individuals who receive reduced SSI benefits because they reside in a medical treatment facility (and whose care is over 50% covered by Medicaid).
  • Fugitives, individuals who are currently in prison, and anyone who has violated parole.
  • People whose benefits are suspended due to giving false or misleading statements.

Note: The list above is not exhaustive, but covers most reasons why someone wouldn’t receive a $250 check in 2009 despite being a recipient of benefits from the Social Security Administration.

Who Isn’t Getting a $250 Stimulus Check, Federal Economic Recovery Payment – Those Who Owe Money

Like the 2008 tax rebates, these $250 checks will be used to offset any federal income tax obligations. Additionally, anyone who owes more than $250 total to other federal or state agencies or in child support won’t get a check. The $250 payment will be used to offset those outstanding debts as well.

Bottom line anyone who owes more than $250 total to state and federal government agencies (including the IRS) will not get a check. The Department of the Treasury should make this determination based on available information.

How to Qualify for an Economic Stimulus Check & How the $250 Will Be Paid

Individuals should be aware that no action is necessary on their part to qualify for a payment. The three agencies already know who does and does not qualify. Payments should be routed in the same manner (mailed to the same address or transferred to the same bank account, for example) as regular agency benefits.

What If Your Check Doesn’t Arrive? How to Contact the SSA

According to the Social Security Administration, individuals who expect to receive a check from the organization should not contact the administration’s offices unless the $250 stimulus payment isn’t received by June 4, 2009. To contact the SSA, call 1-800-772-1213 or contact a local Social Security office.

For detailed information on who will receive an economic stimulus payment, see the article $250 Stimulus Checks for Veterans & Retirees (link above).

Note: Certain individuals who receive benefits from the Railroad Retirement Board and Department of Veterans Affairs are also eligible for $250 economic stimulus payments. This article only covers rules specific to Social Security Administration beneficiaries.

Since I paid my taxes on April 15th in addition to having a lot of money taken out of my paycheck, in my opinion, a rebate would help the already taxed Americans instead of rewarding those who did not work at all ... I would probably use the money to support a local business instead of paying my mortgage which has to be paid anyway. What are those who did not work or pay taxes using the money for? That being said, I do feel that senior citizens on SS should get the money because most of them are really strapped nowadays and need the money for health reasons or medications.

Let's see we the taxpayers can afford to grant another 30 BILLION to UAW, and it is still gonna close factories, put people out of work and be in debt. Why not help the American Taxpayers that are already taxed to death?I remember my dad saying years ago that UAW was gonna ruin this country-I'm just glad he is not here to see the shape it is in today. Mr President is surely on the wrong track. How can we possibly come out of this mess when when he keeps giving money away??????That we DON'T HAVE!!! Wake up Mr President-there is NO CHANGE LEFT!!!!!Congratulations on owning 60 percent of GM(what next). And they expect us to continue buying GM products -wrong- NOT IN THIS HOUSEHOLD, hell I couldn't afford one anyway!!!

Yes I agree that our senior citizens should be granted a stimulus package and if the truth be told, a lot more than that considering how our previous president(Bush) has taken all of the American money to Iraq and why????? you have enough hunger, and poverty situations in our own country that you seemed to care about. Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You!!!! Ask What You Can Do For Your Country!!!! Like can I work hard all my life, pay taxes, and expect for our government leaders to allow all these foreigners to come over and take our jobs, open a business without paying taxes, buying houses we cannot even get, well if they are going to be citizens of the USA then heck make them live the same way we do. Now that President Obama is finally letting Americans see where the money is going, now you ave a bunch of self- righteous critics complaining about that too. The heck with the American society that feel they have a right to judge our new president, after all who started this mess in the first place, is it such a threat that a half black man is over our country, that so many feel inferior or is the real fear coming from how his race has always been treated. Everybody say he's the first African American President, well what about the other part of him, oh I guess so !!!!! It's more about skin color than the color of the dollar bills that at least now we can see what it looks like... Everything is going down because of a DIVIDED COUNTRY..... not because of money....

I have worked and paid taxes most of my life just like most able americans and never have I complained about what the gov has done with it.U know helping people out thats on ssi with a $250 1 time payment is a hell of alot better than blown the hell out of a country and then tring to rebuild it.Or as stated by another person the presidents lil vacations with the family. And iam pretty sure that alot of the people on ssi have paid taxes before. If we as americans would learn to put GOD first then people then money then things we all would be living in a much better America. After all George Washington said all men are created equal and we are 1 nation under GOD!!!!!!!!!!!

I receive SSI, due to permanent disability. Starting Jan. 2009, it was $907. March'09, it went down to $870. Then it went down to $850. Now it will go down to $845 beginning Nov.'09. I am in Calif. The amounts going downward and downward are thanks to Gov. Arnold Schwartzenegger. I am very thankful for the $250 payment.
