Predictions of imminent doom have been made for centuries. The late Julian Simon convincingly debunked the myth of resources running out by pointing out that commodity prices have, in fact, been decreasing over the decades - signaling that supplies are not becoming scarce. Humans are bright and they respond to incentives (read: high prices encourage thriftiness and innovation).
